This week we have a story sent in by one of our patrons who may have had a Yowie sighting when he lived in Australia back in 2013.
I was walking the old Woodend Logging Rail Line that has been converted into a walking trail. This path runs through the Wombat National Forest. It dead ends into the town of Woodend, which includes the tale of Picnic at Hanging Rock. I was walking through the bush when a figure walked across the path. It was tall, hairy, and humanoid. It was down the trail about a hundred yards, maybe a little over. It was walking across the path from dense foliage into more dense vegetation. Rustle, walk out, walk in, rustle. When I caught up to the point on the trail, I could see indications of something walking through the bushes. It was summer, so everything was bone dry. Dust was covered in eucalyptus bark; the trail is gravel, not much in the way of tracking. An odor was in the air, mixed with the heavy smell of eucalyptus oil from the surrounding trees; it was pungent and had a subtle cinnamon and wet fur and cardboard smell with body odor. I hiked on. It’s an old indigenous area as well. The location was timbered with rainforest, and the rainforest is coming back. The summers are hot and dry, and the winters are wet and swampy. It’s just gorgeous.
