In June 2021, the West Virginia Bigfoot Museum had its grand opening during the first annual West Virginia Bigfoot Festival in the town of Sutton. The Museum is located inside the Mountain Laurel Country Store, it got its start due to the popularity of the store’s Bigfoot statue. After noticing the statue, people kept coming by the store and sharing their Bigfoot stories. It wasn’t long after this that the museum owners decided there was enough interest in Bigfoot locally and at the state level to start the museum.
The museum currently includes a large collection of original Bigfoot footprint casts from around West Virginia as well as cast copies from around the rest of the United States. The museum also has posters of local and statewide Bigfoot accounts, a compiled binder of Bigfoot sightings, a Bigfoot sightings map, and museum quality replica skulls of an Orangutan, a mountain gorilla, and a Gigantopithecus. You can also pick up some really great souvenirs such as shirts, hats, books, coffee mugs, and stickers.

If you are a fan of Bigfoot I definitely recommend checking the museum out, it was a really fun place to visit. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. They are also planning an expansion of the museum they hope to have completed by the 2nd Bigfoot festival this June. They plan to have many more exhibits available at this time. During my tour Laurel informed me that what was out on display was only about 1/3 of their current collection. I want to give a big thanks to Laurel for all of the information and my tour of the museum!
