Located in eastern Monroe County, West Virginia. The resort was built by William Lewis, the brother of General Andrew Lewis who led the battle of Point Pleasant. The resort as we know it was built in the 1830’s and was a tourist hotspot with many famous visitors like George Washington and his wife, Patrick Henry, Robert E Lee and a few US Presidents. People believed that the water had healing properties. For the Most part the resort was operated by the Lewis family up until the 1930s.
In the 1940s it became a sanitarium for tuberculosis patients; more than 1,000 people died there during that time. Later became an old folks home up until the 1990s.
Later in 2016 Cindy Harper did the first official paranormal investigation there. After her experiences there they soon opened up for haunted tours, ghost hunts, and history tours.
