On Labor day weekend, 2023, we were demonstrating blacksmithing at Watoga State Park. It was a 2 day event so we planned to camp out at our site. That Saturday evening, everyone except the two of us, and one other person at the other end of the site, had left the area. We were the de-facto watch dogs.
At 9 pm, I pulled a chair out for a little star-gazing, as it was a crystal clear and moon-less night, and Watoga SP is a certified dark sky location.. Anyway, I noticed something moving from a southerly direction. At first, it looked like a string of lights, not unlike a Starlink satellite release, but I realized that what I saw was probably not that.. I immediately called my wife to come hither, and I asked “what the hell is that?.”. She replied with a “Holy S— !” expression.
It was a dark, long craft.with a row of lights, which looked like windows. There seemed to be lines which ran length-wise on the craft. The craft blocked out the stars behind as it moved slowly.in a northerly direction, so it was obviously a solid object. We heard a low humming sound but nothing else. We watched it for about 5 minutes (we figured) before it seemed to bear easterly and then it vanished. It appeared to be just above a tree-line at the other end of the open area where the event was being held, so I would guess that it was around 200 feet from us (hard to be more specific, since it was a dark night).
Fortunately, we did not see a beam of light, nor hear any movement in the woods, nor see any occupants as the Kentucky hunters saw. But still, it became one of those nights where, as Loretta Lynn once sang, “Gonna sleep with one eye open”, and we did.
When we got home, the following evening, I looked up Star-link satellite releases and watched several videos, and no, that is not what we saw. My wife,Bonnie, filed a report with MUFON, and they have, so far, not debunked it.
I am 79 years old and have never seen anything like that before
