This is a story about an encounter with Green Eyes from Chickamauga Battlefield straight from my uncle in his own words.
It was 1973, and I was working two jobs to help my mother with some bills and pay my own bills, and I was saving up for the new Chevy Nova that came out last year. The girl I was dating at the time was working too, and she didn’t get off work till around 10:00 or 10:30 p.m. So as it happened, one weekend we had the night off at the same time, and I had just gotten my Nova.
So wanting to show it off and being a young couple wanting a little time to ourselves, we decided to go over to the Chickamauga Battlefield and just hang out because usually it was pretty quiet that late. Well, as we sat there, we reminisced, talked, laughed, and was talking about how eerie it was without the crowd of people there.
Well, she had scooted over next to me, and I put my arm around her when, out of the corner of my eye, I saw in the rear view mirror a set of glowing green eyes! I jerked around and looked, and there they were staring at me menacingly and piercing. I suddenly felt the emotions of dread and (strangely) sadness wash over me.
What had me the most was absolute sheer terror! I screamed, which in turn scared my girlfriend, and she screamed not even knowing why. I turned around, started the engine, dropped it in gear, and punched it. We headed out of there, spending tires and throwing grass and gravel, going down the road, which is limited to just a few miles an hour, wide open. Looking in my rearview mirror, Green Eyes is still there! By that time, my girlfriend turned around and saw them too. When we got to the exit, they had vanished.
Needless to say, we didn’t slow down till we got near town.
