Possible Mothman Sightings – Witbank, South Africa

It was a quiet night back in October 2022, around 9 p.m. I was sitting outside on the street, just waiting for my wife to get home. At first, everything felt normal, but after a while, this strange feeling came over me—uneasy, like something wasn’t right.

I looked up, and that’s when I saw it.
There was a figure standing in the darkness, down the street from me. It wasn’t moving, just… standing there, watching. I froze. My heart started racing, and for a split second, I looked away—just for a moment to gather my thoughts. When I looked back, it was gone.

My gut told me to leave it alone, but curiosity got the better of me. I stood up and started walking toward where I’d seen it. That’s when two dogs came out of nowhere, charging at me like they were going to attack.

I braced myself, ready to fight them off, but right as they got about two meters away, they stopped dead in their tracks. They stood there for a moment, staring past me like they saw something terrifying. Then, without warning, they turned tail and bolted in the opposite direction.

I didn’t have much time to think about what scared them off, because that’s when I saw it.
It was standing directly in front of me.

The thing was massive, unlike anything I’d ever seen before. My breath caught in my throat as it unfolded these enormous wings, and in one swift motion, it leapt into the air and took off into the sky. It looked like a cross between a man and a bird, with dark brown skin or feathers. I just stood there, stunned, trying to process what I had seen.

I told my wife about it later, and honestly, I don’t think she fully believed me at first. That is… until it happened to her.

About two weeks later, on October 23rd, my wife and I were walking to a small shop near our house around 8 p.m. We just needed to grab a few things, nothing unusual. As we were walking, we noticed a truck with two people in the back, stopped on the side of the road.

They weren’t looking at us—they were looking up.

My wife immediately felt this overwhelming sense of dread. She grabbed my arm and whispered, “Something’s wrong.” Then, she looked up too.

And there it was.

Hovering above us was the exact creature I had seen before. My wife described it later as a “bird-like man” with a massive wingspan, circling silently in the night sky. It was just… watching us.

We didn’t wait around to see what it would do next. We turned right around and started heading back home, glancing over our shoulders the whole way. Every time we looked back, it was still there, circling the same spot.

By the time we made it inside, we were both shaking. We swore to each other that no matter what, we weren’t stepping foot outside again for the rest of the night.

To this day, we don’t know what we saw. But we both know one thing for sure—whatever that creature is, it’s still out there.
