Back in the late 90’s, we used to do a lot of hiking and camping on various local trails. One spot we really liked was a relatively isolated spot on the Giles County side of Peter’s Mountain. We would hike up about 2 miles on what had once been a railroad spur during the heavy logging days of over a century ago. The spot was at the joining of 2 streams and included a relatively level spot, where we would pitch our tent.
One evening, probably between 10-11 PM, while sitting around our campfire, which we had let burn low since we were tired and ready to crawl into our sleeping bags, I noticed a bright orange ball of light, guessing around 8 or 9 inches in diameter, followed closely (a couple of feet) by a smaller one (maybe 5 or6 inches in diameter) bobbing along behind it, like two people, walking single file down a trail. Oddly, they were following the trail and passed by around 10 feet from us, and there was nothing visible holding the lights up, they were definitely floating at about head-height, as if they were living, walking people. I remember thinking :”did I really see that?”, when Bonnie asked “did you see that?” I asked what she saw and it was the same thing I saw. Well, we threw a couple more logs on the fire, and I reached in the tent and grabbed my 44 special pistol (not that it would have done any good, but it seemed like the thing to do at the time…), and we sat up a while longer pondering what they were. We have heard of such things called “ghost lights” and of course the well- documented Brown Mountain Lights. But whatever these lights we saw that evening were, we both for sure saw them.
We have camped at that same spot several times, but this was the only time we ever encountered anything spooky, there. We still don’t know what they were
