In the rolling hills of southern Indiana, just a stone’s throw from the Appalachian border, there’s a quiet village that holds a secret from the winter of 1967. It started on a crisp, sunny afternoon in January. Billy Taylor, a high school freshman, was home alone when he noticed something impossible drifting past his front window. It looked like a moving silver streetlamp, but as it maneuvered around obstacles with the speed of a walking man, Billy realized it was a metallic, “bean-pot” shaped craft.
Terrified yet curious, he grabbed his sister’s Kodak Hawkeye camera. He snapped a photo through the curtains, then rushed to the bedroom for a clearer shot. The object glided silently toward a pine tree and simply vanished into thin air. When Billy finally snapped out of his trance and walked back into the house, his nose was pouring blood, and he had no memory of the minutes following the disappearance. That pine tree, once vibrant, withered and died within weeks. Experts who later analyzed the negative found a dark, solid object reflecting the winter branches—a physical piece of evidence that Billy would spend the rest of his life regretting.
For years, the story was a local legend, bringing Billy more ridicule than fame. But in April 1973, the atmosphere shifted from “weird” to “deadly.” Two figures walked into Billy’s auto parts store. They weren’t human. One was so tall he had to stoop to enter the door; the other was less than five feet. Both wore identical clothes and heavy gloves, but it was their faces that stayed with Billy forever—they looked like molded plastic, featuring frozen expressions and oval shaped, glossy black eyes.
Billy’s ferocious guard dog, a beast that feared no man, took one look at them and collapsed into a corner, rolling into a ball and whimpering in pure terror. The taller entity spoke in a hollow, mechanical monotone: “On January 19th, 1967, four minutes until three o’clock… did you see something unusual?” It wasn’t a question; it was a demand. When Billy refused to hand over the original photo and negative, the air in the room grew heavy. Outside, a friend of Billy’s peered into the car the strangers had arrived in—a bright yellow Buick LeSabre. He recoiled in horror when he saw the car was just a hollow shell. No seats, no dashboard, no steering wheel—just an empty metal skin sitting on the pavement.
Later, enroute to the next town, Billy found that they had not left him yet. The Men in Black were tailing him inches from his rear bumper, following him at breakneck speeds. Upon arrival at the welding shop, Billy found they had parked their car and were only a few steps behind him.
When Billy opened the shop door, a welder’s arc flash was emitted. Billy turned and was shocked to see the eerie pair of MIB’s and their strange auto had vanished.
The years that followed were a gauntlet of unexplained misery. Billy was plagued by chronic nosebleeds that defied medical treatment. He began finding “scoop marks” and puncture scars on his body, as if he were being sampled like livestock. He survived a catastrophic car wreck where his vehicle was crushed between a semi-truck and a bulldozer—a crash he shouldn’t have walked away from.
The entities never truly left him. He reported seeing pale blue beams of light rising through his ceiling and small, thin-fingered “Grays” watching him from the corners of his room. Once, he vanished from his house for over an hour, only to reappear in the same spot with a fresh nosebleed and a wedding ring back on his finger that had been lost for days. Until he passed away at age 66, Billy felt like a piece on a chessboard, being moved by silent, black Cadillac’s with windows so dark they seemed to swallow the light. He was a man caught in a “learning game” played by things that don’t belong to this earth—things that are still out there, waiting for the next person to pick up a camera.
